Barn Raising: A Roof Overhead
The first sheet of roofing installed on each section requires the greatest care with regard to alignment. Once it is secured it determines how true all successive pieces will run.
We rigged a system that included a plywood panel with stop blocks that we could slide along the purlins to support the folding ladder, giving access to the monitor roof.
Installing roofing is my least favorite task. Lots and lots and lots of bad words . . .
Marion marks the location of each screw, then punches a hole to make it easier to get the screw started.
Above, I trim the purlins on the widow’s peak to length.
Marion keeps things organized at day’s end.
The only thing left is the ridge cap and flashing. Otherwise, we’re ready to shed the rain.
