Barn Raising: Day Six
On the morning of June 23rd, the sixth day of the raising, I drove Henry down our road where he would await the pick-up from Upper Valley Equipment Rental. The wide stance of the machine barely fit between ditch and trees.
As it turned out, the folks from the rental shop did not come to pick up Henry for another few days. We paid evening visits to him until his ride arrived.
We waited to cut the bird’s mouth notches in the principal shed rafters until after the rest of the frame was up, allowing us to compensate for any slight variance in the final dimensions. Above, I hammer the first of the principal rafters home.
The shed common rafters installed quickly and easily and were pegged in place.
By the end of the sixth day of the raising, the final form of the monitor barn had taken shape.
